Read my complete ThredUP review to learn more about this online thrift store and to see how I get cheap or free designer clothes.
I love beautiful clothes and shoes, but I also love saving money. Before I had my daughter Ella, I enjoyed spending hours sifting through secondhand stores to find hidden gems – gorgeous, designer clothing at a fraction of the original price.
As a working mom, I don’t have time for that these days. That’s okay though. I found something MUCH better, something that changed the way I shop for clothes.

Second hand stores are a great way to get a bargain on designer clothes, but they are generally a pain to navigate. Finding something you love (in your size!) can take forever. Working moms don’t have time for that!
Fortunately, there is an alternative and it’s even better (and cheaper) then you local thrift store. It’s called ThredUP – the online thrift store that has helped me get designer clothes for FREE or very cheap over the last few years!
It’s easy to search for what you want and if you don’t like it, returns are painless as well. With ThredUP, you can save up to 90% on name brand clothing, shoes and handbags in like-new condition or even get them for free. It’s the easiest way to save money on clothes and shoes.
How to Get Free Designer Clothes
So how do I get designer clothes for free from ThredUP? I’m glad you asked. There are two ways to get free designer clothes through ThredUP. The first is to is to sell your used clothes in exchange for cash or shopping credit. To get started, head over to ThredUP.com, click on “clean out” from the main menu, and look through the brands they accept (they have a long list) and other clothing guidelines. Then order your clean out bag. Once it arrives, fill it with your clothes and mail it in. The ThredUP crew will photograph and list your items. Once your stuff is sold, you will receive a payout. If you decide to get store credit, you can easily get designer clothes for FREE.
The second way to get Free Designer Clothes is by referring friends. To earn store credit, click on your account and then “referrals and invitations.” There you will find your unique invite link. When your friends and family register with ThredUP through this link, they will get a $10 credit to spend. After they make their first purchase, you will get a $10 credit too! It’s another great way to earn free designer clothes.
ThredUP Review – My Shopping Experience
My husband and I are currently paying down home and student loan debt. We are on a pretty tight budget, so it’s been a long time since I went shopping for clothes. Because it’s almost my birthday, I decided to give myself an early present and go on a mini shopping spree! With a $50 budget, I headed to ThredUP.com.
Check out what I got:
ThredUP Review – My $50 Shopping Spree
At the ThredUp website, I entered my favorite brand, LOFT, into the search bar and selected my sizes in the drop down menu. I hit enter and up came page after page of like-new skirts, blouses, dresses and jeans all in my size. You definitely can’t do that at the thrift store!
After searching through the first few pages, I found five pieces that I couldn’t live without. I loaded up my digital cart and head to checkout. At the top of the page, I noticed a coupon code for an additional 40% – score! I was so excited to see my savings that I took a screenshot! As you can see, I saved a total of 73%. After I applied the 40% off coupon code, my grand total came to $48. How perfect is that?
A few days later, this adorable polka dot box arrived on my porch. After taking a peek inside, I was pretty excited! Everything looked brand new and fit beautifully. Below is one of the outfits I found. Both the dress and the cardigan are from LOFT. I love the unique pattern on this dress, it’s perfect for fall.
