I have finally gotten to the point where I can confidently say that my blog is successful. This was not always the case. I have been blogging for seven years and for much of that time I let my “pageview number” dictate the worth of my blog. Now I understand how inaccurate and defeating that belief was.
Today, my focus is completely different. My goal is to write posts that are valuable to my readers as well as the brands that hire me. I am focused on creating the best content I can. And you know what? Brands love this! They want their products to be represented by passionate and creative bloggers.
Since I have stopped obsessing over my traffic, not only do I have a more engaged and authentic audience, but I get paid very well for my blogging efforts. I say this, not to brag, but to encourage bloggers who have a smaller readership to see the value they can offer. Your numbers truly do not measure the value you offer your readers or brands.
Even though I have been blogging for seven years, only in the last two or three have I gotten serious about blog monetization. So whether you are new to blogging or you’ve been at it for a long time, I would encourage you to start with this post I wrote last year.
I currently make $2,000 to $3,000 a month blogging part time. Most of that income is earned through blog networks. In my post, Even Small Blogs Make Money, I share my favorite networks, their requirements, and how to apply.
So the first step toward creating a profitable blog is to visit the post above and apply for at least one of the networks mentioned. Once you are accepted, you are ready to take the next step!
Now it’s time for the fun part – getting brands to work with you! For most networks, the process goes something like this: you read through brand pitches, submit an application to be considered, and then wait to see if you have been accepted.
While it seems easy enough, getting accepted into brand campaigns can be difficult and often frustrating. It definitely doesn’t have to be though! Below I have listed my top tips to help you achieve a steady flow of sponsored posts and income. I hope these tips help you in your journey to make money blogging.
As always, feel free to email me or leave a comment below if you have any questions. I love to help other bloggers earn the money they deserve!
Connect with Brands & Make Money Blogging
There are often hundreds of bloggers applying for the same opportunities, so the sooner you apply the better.
Make Your Application Stellar
This principle is the number one thing that has increased my income and transformed my blogging career;
To be selected, you must stand out from the crowd. Make your first impression unforgettable!
You do this by submitting amazing applications. Tell the brand how you would showcase their product – would you create a tutorial, craft or recipe? Be as specific about your idea as possible.
Another important tip; only apply to campaigns that are a good fit for you and your readers. Your passion for a product or brand will not only land you more gigs but it keeps your blog authentic to you.
I have personally seen how effective this strategy is. Since I began seeking campaigns that were a good fit for my site and then submitting thoughtful applications, I have seen my acceptance rates (and income) go through the roof. It is truly the most important step to creating a profitable blog.
Double Check Your Application
Check and double check your application to make sure all your information is accurate and your grammar/spelling is correct. I can’t tell you how many times I have been in a hurry, submitted an application, and then spotted errors. You only get one first impression, so make sure everything is flawless.
Write Amazing Content
Your content should ALWAYS be amazing. It doesn’t matter if you are being paid hundreds of dollars or you are working for free. If it’s published on your blog, make sure it is something you are proud of.
Before selecting bloggers for a campaign, brands (or their representatives) take a good look at your site. They want to get an idea of the type and quality of post you will create for them. If they see less then stellar posts, they will pass you by.
You have put in the time to craft a valuable blog, it’s time to earn something for your efforts and finally make money blogging! My challenge to you is this:
- Read through, Even Small Blogs Make Money, and apply to at least one of the networks mentioned.
- After you are accepted into that network, find a brand campaign that really excites you.
- Submit an amazing application using the tips above.
- Let me know in the comments below when you are selected for a campaign. I can’t wait to celebrate with you!
