Last week, I took my three year old daughter to the dentist for the first time. She was so excited to go, but I was nervous! It kind of felt like a test – had I done a good enough job keeping her teeth clean and healthy?
Every parent knows the struggle. Toddlers act like getting their teeth brushed is pure torture! Ella would kick and hit me, run to her bed and hid her face, whatever it took to keep me from brushing her teeth.
Of course, I brushed her teeth anyway because I know oral hygiene is so important. And you know what? It payed off. I am happy to report that Ella did wonderfully at the dentist and didn’t have any cavities!
As Ella has gotten older, I have found a few tricks that have really made our teeth brushing routine much more enjoyable for both of us. Watch the clip or scroll down to see my tips to make teeth brushing fun!
Tips to Make Teeth Brushing Fun for Kids!
Here are a few of my favorite tips for making teeth brushing time a little easier and a little more fun!

1. My first tip is to let them do the brushing. Toddler and preschool age children love to do things by themselves. Let kids brush their teeth by themselves first. Afterward, mama or daddy can take a turn and make sure everything is clean.
2. My daughter LOVES music, so this is one tip that has definitely made brushing time more fun. I play her favorite song (right now she’s all about God is on the Move by 7eventh Time Down) while she is brushing. When the song is over, she’s done!
3. When your at the store, let your child pick their own toothbrush. There are so many fun choices. Ella absolutely adores her Rapunzel toothbrush.
4. The minty flavor of most toothpastes is often too much for kids. Opt for a kid-friendly paste in a fun, more mild flavor instead. I really love the hello Products line for kids. They have awesome flavors like bubblegum, watermelon and blue raspberry. We have all three flavors at home right now, and Ella loves choosing a different one each night.
