As an educator, I see firsthand the limited budgets our schools face. The school library is a great example of this. In the elementary school where I teach and many others in the area, school libraries are non-existent. It is the teacher’s responsibility, as well as generous parents, to provide books for the classroom.
We all know that reading is SO important for children’s development, which is why I am very excited to share the Start School Like a Champion program. Inspired by the 2016 Olympic Games, Team USA sponsors HERSHEY’S, Smucker’s, Coca-Cola and Kellogg’s have teamed up with Scholastic Books to offer free books for kids. I love this program because you get free books just for buying products you use already. Keep a few books for your family and donate the rest to a school near you!
Start School Like a Champion
Purchase a participating item (there are over 100!) between 6/29/16 and 9/30/16 and receive a free book. For every product you buy, you will receive one book! I was happy to find that many of the participating items are foods my family enjoys every day like Folgers coffee, JIF peanut butter, and Smucker’s strawberry jam. Below are more of my favorites!
For the full list of participating items, visit StartSchoolLikeAChampion.com
After purchasing the products, take a picture of your receipt. Then go to Kellogg’s Family Rewards, upload the photo of your receipt and choose your free books! You will have the option to pick a book for your family or a school of your choice.
Encourage your Champion: Bookmark Reading Chart
We all know how important reading is, but with all the technology competing for their attention, it’s easy for kids to lose interest. Get them excited about reading again with this bookmark reading chart! For each book they read, your child earns one sticker to place on their bookmark. After reading 12 books, they get a special surprise. The surprise could be a small toy, coloring book, or a sweet treat.
Get the Bookmark!
To get the bookmark reading chart, just click on the image above, save and then print on cardstock. I printed one for Ella this morning, and she is so excited to earn her prize. She has been bringing me books all day!
