DIY Tinted Grapefruit Lip Balm

By Rebekah 2 Comments

Learn how to make DIY tinted lip balm with this easy tutorial!

Grapefruit is a wonderful fruit, isn’t it? The vibrant color and fresh scent – there is something so invigorating about it! It’s even been said that just the scent of grapefruit helps fight depression. Pretty cool stuff.

We have a big grapefruit tree in our backyard, and it produces a ton of fruit. I have used our grapefruits to make Grapefruit Yogurt Bread, Grapefruit Scented Wax Melts, and the cute grapefruit lip balms below. When you have that much grapefruit on your hands, you have to get creative!

Lip balm is a year round beauty necessity and this DIY tinted lip balm is a great choice. It’s hydrating, smells amazing, and the light pink tint is the perfect everyday shade. Since the ingredients are all natural, it’s great for kids too. My daughter Ella was so excited when I gave her a “lipstick” of her very own!

Follow the recipe below and then print out the lip balm pot labels to put the finishing touch on your DIY tinted lip balm.

I know you will love this natural balm as much as Ella and I!

Before we get the supplies you need for this lip balm recipe, let’s talk about essential oils. You have to be careful where you purchase essential oils because they are not all made equal.

I highly recommend Plant Therapy. Their oils are pure, strong and affordable. They even have a new line of oils that are safe for kids if you have little ones running around!

What You’ll Need:

  • Empty Lip Balm Pots
  • 1/4 cup Beeswax Pellets
  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil
  • Grapefruit Essential Oil
  • Optional: Lipstick Shavings (for color)

Directions:

  1. Fill a small pan 1/4 full of water and boil. Place a metal bowl over the pan of boiling water (bowl should not touch the water).
  2. Add the coconut oil, beeswax pellets and lipstick shavings to the metal bowl and stir until completed melted.
  3. Sprinkle in 15 – 20 drops of the grapefruit essential oil.
  4. Working quickly, spoon mixture into lip balm pots and let cool completely.

Lip Balm Pot Labels!

To make this DIY lip balm even more fun, add one of these adorable lip balm pot labels! Simply click the image above, download and then print out on sticker paper (select the “print to fit page” option). I love these cute labels; they make these little lip balms perfect for gift giving!
