Summer is a great time of year. Everything just seems a little easier and more relaxed. When it comes to summer beauty, however, things can get a little tricky. Those days spent lounging by the pool can also lead to sun fried skin, and dry, damaged hair. Try these simple tips for before/after swimming to keep your skin and hair looking great all summer long.
Totally obvious, I know. Sunscreen is an absolute requirement when it comes to summer beauty. It not only prevents painful sunburns, but it is the best defense against skin cancer and premature aging. So slather on the sunscreen before heading out to the pool (or anywhere). Your skin will thank you!
Shower Before Pool
We all see the signs prompting us to shower before entering the pool, but how many of us actually comply? I know I am guilty of skipping the shower and diving right in on occasion. Showering before swimming is actually a really good idea. Not only is it more hygienic, showering first will hydrate your hair and skin and keep them from absorbing as much of that damaging chlorine.
Swim Cap with Coconut Oil
It’s no secret – chlorine and sun can wreck your hair. Fortunately, there is an easy remedy. If you want awesome post-pool hair, you have got to try this. Before swimming, wet hair and apply a small amount of coconut oil. Secure into a bun and put on a swim cap. After swimming, shampoo hair normally and allow to air dry. This will give you the most gorgeous hair ever!
This is another tip I am guilty of skipping occasionally. Rinsing off the chlorine after pool time is vital for healthy, beautiful skin and hair.
Maintaining hydration is key to achieving gorgeous skin. In the summer, especially after swimming, this can be tough. I have been using the new Aloe Soothe Vaseline Spray Moisturizer and highly recommend it for after-sun care. The light mist works beautifully to smooth and hydrate skin. I love that it absorbs almost instantly and doesn’t leave skin feeling greasy. It’s wonderfully light – perfect for summer.
